New Zealand has been selected to host the International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centers (IAPTC) 24th Annual Conference. The conference will be held in Auckland at the SKYCITY Convention Centre in October 2018.

The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) is hosting the conference in partnership with the New Zealand Police, Ministry of Defence, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The partnership reflects New Zealand’s multi-agency approach to peace operations and crisis situations. It also reflects the mix of participants from similar agencies who are expected to attend the conference.

The New Zealand Army is organising, planning and managing the hosting arrangements on behalf of
the NZDF.

The IAPTC Executive Committee met in Auckland in February to plan the 24th IAPTC Annual Conference programme for October.

What is the IAPTC?

The IAPTC is a voluntary association of international militaries, police forces, government agencies, academics, and institutions. It was established in 1995 to facilitate global networking and exchange of information on best practices relating to training for peace operations and crisis situations.

The IAPTC’s annual conference is attended by around 200 delegates from more than 50 countries and 65 to 70 organisations. It is held regionally in a different member country each year and this will be the first time New Zealand has hosted the conference.

It will provide a forum to broaden contact and discussions between various international organisations, training centres and institutions, universities, think tanks, research scholars and related stakeholders.

The theme for the 24th IAPTC Annual Conference will be ‘Innovative Capacity Building For Effective Peace Operations’. A number of world class international speakers have committed to sharing their experiences during the conference and others are being approached.

During the conference Colonel Helen Cooper will be appointed President of the IAPTC Executive Committee; she will be the first female president in the 23 year history of the IAPTC.

If you are involved in peace operations and related crisis situations, be it as a planner, professional trainer, and/or studying in field, you can read more about this conference at and subscribe to a blog for regular updates.
